In less than 24 hours, Jazz Air flights from all over BC will begin arriving at the Northwest Regional Airport, bringing over 15-hundred athletes, coaches and officials, and countless more parents and supporters, to Terrace and Kitimat.

The 2010 BC Winter Games take place this Thursday to Sunday, and Games Committee President Peter Weeber says it'll be unlike anything Terrace has seen in nearly a quarter-century.

Weeber says they still need volunteer help in a couple of key areas -- one is driving VIPs and Games officials around the area, because the committee has run out of drivers -- and cars!
"So what people can do, and I'm challenging Terrace," said Weeber "is we need 20 drivers and vehicles by the end of today (Tuesday) -- and what you can do is call us at 635-2010 and tell us when you're available, and we'll get you on the list -- join the team, we need ya!"

Weeber says the committee also needs help transporting all the players' equipment from the airport.
"We have a huge arrival on Wednesday at noon, and a departure on Sunday from 12 til 7 at night, so we need support in moving bags, approximately 3000 bags to be exact, and skis and such and hockey gear."

Weeber says, after well over a year of planning, it's exciting to have the big show about to begin.

"This is pretty high level for the kids -- the next level is national and world competition, and then the Olympics being the ultimate goal for some of them. We had 23 alumni in these last winter games, we had a gold medal winner -- former BC Games alumnus Maelle Ricker"

When he's not visiting Bert's Deli or stealing pens from work, Ryan is beating on people who wear socks with their sandals and dreaming of meeting Red Green one day. The rest of the time he's on the radio.
